An amazing situation: A man takes...

Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them: …
Mark 9:36

An amazing situation: A man takes a child and places it in the middle of the twelve men who accompany Him. Then He bends down and takes the child in His arms. It is Jesus! What love the Saviour of the world brings to this child! The child will certainly not have been frightened. Perhaps it is surprised at first, but it does not run away. It allows itself be embraced by this man: a moving scene.

To be “hugged” by one of our loved ones or by a friend does us good. And when someone, from whom we hardly expected it, shows us genuine love, it leaves a lasting impression. Were we perhaps too sceptical and misjudged the person? The special thing about children is that they are not suspicious. And we can learn from this. Let’s relate to Jesus like a child! He only means well with us! He wants to be our Saviour. He came into the world to “seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). The Lord Jesus wants to free us from our sins and give us eternal life.

To know ourselves as loved by Him makes us infinitely happy. We will experience that His loving arms are also strong arms that support us and carry us so that we do not grow weary. One day He will bring His own home to His Father’s house – where He is at home and where divine love dwells.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast,
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul doth rest.
Hark! ’tis a song of heaven borne in the sweetest voice,
Echoed by saints in spirit, making my heart rejoice.

F.J. Crosby (1820–1915)

. He learned that God can only use subjection of Himself, weakness in self, and dependence upon Him only.
However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
