December 17, 2015 Today's reading: Amos 5 We have seen and testify that the father has sent the son as the savior of the world. 1 John 4:14 A witness against his will Simon of Cyrene happened to be returning to Jerusalem from his field, just as he met a strange group led by soldiers on the outskirts of the city. Three men who had been condemned to death were each carrying a cross. Two of them were robbers but who was the third man? He was Jesus the Son of God. He had been wrongly accused and condemned, though not guilty. Yet He went quietly towards Calvary, as the will of God would have it, to give His life as an atoning sacrifice for many. Simon was on the way home, but suddenly the soldiers grabbed him and compelled him to carry the cross for the Lord. So, following the rest, he had the opportunity to hear how Jesus spoke to the women who accompanied Him weeping. How did Simon report this occurrence when he reached home? To all appearances, his sons, Alexander and Rufus, were impressed; later they were numbered among the disciples of Jesus(cf. ) A Roman captain was in charge of the shameful task of his men there at Calvary. Hours passed, during which the crowd scorned the One crucified at the centre. However, the captain himself became thoughtful. Who was being so cruelly despaired and insulted? The word of forgiveness Jesus altered from the cross, the sudden darkness, His cry, "Father into Your hands I commend my spirit", then the earthquake made a profound impression on the captain. Astonished he exclaimed, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"(Mark 15:39). |

Open Heavens for Sunday, March 2, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye NEGATIVE LIVING Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More |
