Stand still for once

But when he came to himself, he said, How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.
Luke 15:17

Stand still for once
In our time, Satan, the great adversary of God, does everything he can to prevent us from “coming to ourselves”. We all know it only too well: hectic days at work, at school and at home. And in our free time? We are constantly on the move or looking for distraction. At home or elsewhere, life is a merry-go-round: we are always on the go.

Listen: do yourself a favour and stop this merry-go-round! Retreat to a place where no one disturbs you. Then think about your life, about your past and present. Also think about your future and ask yourself where your path is leading. If you are on the road without God, you are heading for eternal ruin.

Luke 15 tells of a young man who had run away from his father and finally ended up with the pigs. There he came to himself. He realised that he had taken the wrong path and had come to misery through his own actions. Now he wanted to set out and return to his father with a confession of his sins.

His story makes it clear: a life without God goes wrong and requires a conversion to Him. God wants you to come to this realisation too and confess your failures before Him. Then He will welcome you with open arms, because Jesus Christ died to set you free from your guilt.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 23:1-35 · Psalms 125:1-5

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
