December 19, 2015 Today's reading: Amos 7 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 18:13-14 A successful industrialist once wrote "for all that we gain from industrious activity, we lose something else. In some way or other we have to pay for everything in life. One person pays for his success with those infamous stomach ulcer, another loses his morale, a third sacrifices the love and trust of his children as the cost of his success. In my own case, my loss was even more treacherous and dangerous as I only noticed it when it was gone. I lost my relationship with God. In fact I had always had the feeling that I cut a fine figure with God. I didn't commit adultery nor steal, I took time for my wife, was good to the neighbours and donate generously for farming relief. But I sensed that things could not go on like that. My self-determination and righteousness were the worst form of indifference to God. Eventually I realised that and decided to solve the problem." That business man then described how he when about it. He collected materials concerning philosophy which didn't help. He became all the more confused until one day he came across the solution to his problem in the Bible: Jesus Christ wished to be his Redeemer. He realised that God did not want his achievements, but his trust, trust in His grace and His promises. After that everything changed. |

(Genesis 18:1) The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More |

Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More |

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water" Bible in one year: Job...More |
