The Man of Sorrows

And one will say to him, What are these wounds between your arms? Then he will answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Zechariah 13:6

The Man of Sorrows
With touching words, the prophet Zechariah expresses the suffering of the Saviour. Jesus Christ came to earth out of love for lost people, to seek and to save them. But their response to His divine love was only hatred and rejection. Especially at the end of His life, He experienced how they inflicted physical and spiritual wounds on Him because of this.

After His interrogation before the high priest, we read, “Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him” (Mark 14:65). How cruelly and brutally the people of His own nation treated Him! They were not afraid to spit in the face of the Son of God and beat Him.

After His trial before Pilate, the Roman soldiers abused Him, “They twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head … Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him” (Mark 15:17, 19). How callous they were to inflict this pain on the Lord of glory!

At the site of Calvary, they pierced His hands and His feet to crucify Him. The signs of these wounds, which men inflicted on Him at that time, He bears forever – in His glorified body as well. They remind us eternally of the sufferings He endured when He laid down His life for us on the cross. Today we should thank Him again from the bottom of our hearts!

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 44:15-31 · Psalms 146:1-10

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
