Wild donkey

Who set the wild donkey free? Who loosed the bonds of the onager, whose home I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwelling?
Job 39:5–6

Wild donkey
The “Valle di Muggio” is the southernmost valley of Switzerland, in the canton of Ticino. There – on Monte Bisbino – live some wild horses. These horses were not always living in the wild. They once belonged to someone who took care of them. But when their owner died they became wild horses. They still live in the area, but no one claims ownership of them.

It is the same with the wild donkey, which is mentioned several times in the Bible. It is a donkey that has run away from its owner and now lives in freedom in the wilderness. There is no one to fill its manger with food or to gain any benefit from it.

It is the same with human beings. God the Creator made us and, on account of this, He has a claim on us. But through sin we have separated ourselves from Him. Now we live in the world without a relationship with Him and, like wild asses, can seemingly do whatever we want.

However, God knows that we will not be truly happy living like this. That is why He goes after us and seeks us out. He calls us and wants to bring us to Himself. If we turn to God, accept His offer of pardon and believe in the Lord Jesus, He gives us a new life. He will take care of us from now on and give us an eternal home in heaven. We will receive abundant spiritual food for our hearts from the Bible and we are able to become useful for the Lord and His work.

Today’s reading: Joel 3:7-21 · Proverbs 3:1-18

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
