Sidi Musa (2)

For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13

Sidi Musa (2)
Sidi Musa was a singer and entertainer who made people happy while being thoroughly unhappy himself. One afternoon he found himself in an oriental bazaar, enjoying the interplay of colours and smells, when he came across a missionary who wanted to bring the message of Jesus to the people. The missionary was having a tough time because there was a lot of resistance, and he was faced with rejection and hostility.

And Sidi Musa? He listened and he heard words that he had never heard before, words that touched his heart. They were words of life. Could it really be true that it was possible to know, in the here and now, that one had passed from death to life, that one had been accepted by God?

Sidi Musa absorbed the words, trying to understand as much as possible. Later he met the missionary who read to him what Jesus Christ Himself said: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24). And Sidi Musa believed the gospel and was converted.

He has been with Jesus his Lord for many years now, but I cannot forget his story. Today, when I see people in the spotlight, when I observe their search for (or addiction to) success and recognition, I always remember that they too are in need of the gospel. Often, behind the radiance and laughter hides a person who is searching for peace. But for that one, too, it is true: “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Today’s reading: Nehemiah 3:16-32 · Proverbs 11:20-31

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
