After these things He (Jesus) went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, Follow Me. So he left all, rose up, and followed Him.
Luke 5:27–28

A sticker on the back window of a car reads, “Following is pointless! I’m lost too.” It’s just a joke of course – it isn’t supposed to be anything else.

And yet, isn’t it a widespread tendency in our world to follow someone? People need role models, and so they follow fashion or a famous singer or movie star. One imitates a politician; another behaves like a particular television actor. Someone might catch himself using the same expressions as the person he admires, even if that individual’s private life is not so exemplary.

But anyone who follows another must ask where this ultimately leads! Whether the role model is likeable and possesses some positive qualities is ultimately secondary. Rather, the question is: What path is this person taking? Does his goal in life deserve to become my goal as well? If he were honest, would he then perhaps also have to say to me, “Following is pointless!”, because he himself has no goal?

Jesus Christ once said to Levi the tax collector, “Follow me”. This man then left everything to accept the invitation – and he never regretted it.

In the midst of all the paths that people take or recommend, the Lord Jesus Christ invites us to follow Him. He guarantees us lasting happiness. For this He even laid down His life! The step we take in following Him means only profit for us. Even if He doesn’t promise us a comfortable pathway, He wants to be by our side in all the difficulties of life until we reach our destination – in the glory of God.

Today’s reading: Nehemiah 8:1-12 · Proverbs 14:13-25

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
