New life from God

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17

New life from God
What happens to a person who receives Jesus Christ into their life as Saviour and Lord? Let us think of a butterfly caterpillar for comparison. A few days earlier it has hatched from its egg on the underside of a leaf. It feels very comfortable there because it knows nothing else. Besides, it finds everything there to satisfy its insatiable hunger. From morning till night it eats one leaf after another, growing bigger and fatter every day. Then one day, it stops eating. With a sticky thread that it produces itself, it attaches itself to the underside of a branch. It begins to spin around its entire body until a cocoon is formed.

The cocoon hangs on the branch like a dead leaf. It could be assumed that the caterpillar’s life has come to an end. This is true in a sense, because the caterpillar won’t be leaving the cocoon as a caterpillar – in the days ahead an amazing transformation takes place inside the cocoon.

A few days later, the cocoon breaks open and instead of the fat, ugly caterpillar, a beautiful butterfly emerges. At first, the butterfly is still weak, but soon it floats up into the sunny sky. The air is now its new habitat. Now it feeds on the nectar of flowers and pollinates them. In the process, it transfers pollen from one flower to another so that the fruit, with its new seeds, can develop and ripen.

This is how we can imagine the change that happens when people come to faith in the Lord Jesus. They no longer live in the darkness of sin because Christ has freed them from the power of sin. God has given them a whole new life: eternal life. Their new purpose in life is now to honour God and serve Him.

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
