Whoever believes in Jesus Christ...

He who believes in Me has everlasting life.

He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

John 6:47; John 8:12; John 8:36

Whoever believes in Jesus Christ has been given three things: life, light and freedom. This is worth more than any award or amount of wealth. Some Christians are not even aware of this precious possession. Therefore, their lives continue to be characterised by a sense of darkness and fear.

Whoever believes in Jesus Christ has eternal life. This fact is based on the promises of Jesus. One of them reads: “He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life” (John 5:24). The promise is valid no matter how we feel – nothing human or supernatural is able to revoke it. And no one can take this life away from me either. It is my eternal possession and makes me a child of God.

Every believing Christian also has the “light of life”. Whereas before our conversion we were groping in the dark – without a goal or direction – shadows and darkness have now disappeared for us. The light of God shines into our heart and helps us to see things from God’s perspective. Suddenly we grasp connections and recognise what God’s ideas and goals are, what pleases Him and what doesn’t.

And just as believers have life and light, they also have freedom in Jesus Christ. They are no longer governed by the compulsions that once held them captive and tempted them to evil. They are free to live according to God’s standard. They have been set free from their old life and find their joy in God Himself and in fellowship with their brothers and sisters in faith.

Life, light and freedom – for these gifts I want to thank God from the depths of my heart.

Today’s reading: Nehemiah 12:1-30 · Proverbs 16:12-24

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
