December 26, 2015 Today's reading: Luke 2:1-20 She will bring forth a Son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 Matthew's gospel proves first of all that Jesus was truly a human being. But in His Person, much more than just a human being came to us, namely God Himself. Joseph was informed by an angel that the child Mary was expecting had been conceived by the Holy Ghost and that He should be given the name Jesus(i.e. The Lord is salvation). This Name indicates that He would save His people from their sins. God alone can determine a name with an eye to the future. And this great Name of Jesus was confirmed in a wonderful way. What a harvest of saved persons it has reaped! All have been saved from their sins and from the judgment that they deserved because of them. The prophecy of Isaiah which speaks of the greatness and power of the Saviour, was fulfilled. The name foretold in that prophecy, Emmanuel, i.e. God with us, expressed that He would be "God manifested in the flesh"(1 Timothy 3,16): God in our midst and indeed in a much nobler way than had ever been announced previously. The two names, Jesus and Emmanuel, are closely connected. God cannot dwell with those who are not saved from their sins. His very presence would consume them in judgment. But God wanted not only to save people from their sins but also to be near them and have fellowship with them, so as to make them partakers of His grace and glory. Through Christ's first advent, His intention was perfectly realised. |

Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God. (John...More |

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart. (Hebrews 4:15) There are those who would use the truth of the real manhood of the Lord Jesus and His gracious, sympathetic identification with our humanity as an...More |
Open Heavens for Wednesday, June 18, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More |
