December 28, 2015 Today's reading: Luke 2:41-3:9 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men...Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; Psalm 33:13-18 We are being watched The children are playing out on the terrace; the parents involved in a lively conversation, overhear the sound of the film camera, so they do not notice that Bernard has been filming them. It was his hobby, and every Christmas the projector showed the family his year's achievement. Everyone saw and heard himself - and it was sometimes embarrassing! If we were aware that we were being filmed for 24 hours everyday without our knowing it, the thought would undoubtedly be unbearable for most of us. Now let us be sure that the entire brief period of our life has been registered from heaven. The 17th century French writer Bossuet once wrote: "An invisible hand is drafting an account of our life. Let us endeavour to make it a good one." He has right, except for one detail: our life cannot be good unless we allow the Lord Jesus to direct it. And let us not forget that we do not have two opportunities to live. When our personal history on earth is over, we cannot re-start it. So it is very important to pay attention to the way we lead our life and to our behaviour at the present time. "Therefore we make it our aim...to be well pleasing to him; for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, whether good or bad"(2 Corinthians 5:9-10). |
