Warning against the voice of deceivers

Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
Colossians 2:4

Warning against the voice of deceivers
In his letter to the believers in Colosse, Paul warns against people who want to mislead Christians with their words.

How should we picture such a warning? Like a danger sign on the road with a red border – in the middle of the sign, a mouth and speech bubbles.

These sayings of the deceivers may sound good, the arguments convincing, the approaches plausible, and the advice impressive. But on the whole, they cast a shadow on what the Bible says about Jesus Christ. The spring is not pure. Who would want to drink from such water? Probably no one if there’s a chance of being poisoned. The wise man heeds the warning.

The one who doesn’t listen to the voice of seduction has his ears free to listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd. People once marvelled at the words of grace that came out of His mouth. He could say of Himself, “the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” Peter attested to Him, “You have the words of eternal life. Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (John 6:68–69). With Jesus Christ we know where we stand because it is clear what He says and who He is.

True, the religious leaders at that time thought He was a deceiver and a rebel. That was fake news. Peter, on the other hand, testified to the good news: “Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins” (Acts 5:31).

Today’s reading: Amos 7:1-17 · Proverbs 24:23-34

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
