Saving faith

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
Acts 16:31

Saving faith
God gave His Son Jesus Christ to die for lost people so that they can be saved. The Saviour’s sacrifice on the cross of Calvary is sufficient to pardon their sins so that their relationship with God can be set right. That’s why all people are invited through the gospel to “be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

However, there is no automatic, inevitable salvation. Each person has to decide to accept God’s invitation and believe in the Saviour. This is a very personal decision that we need to make for ourselves. Parents cannot believe for their children, and a wife cannot believe for her husband – each one is invited individually: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.”

This belief is the conviction in the heart that Jesus Christ had to die on the cross for me and for my sins. The price of His precious blood was necessary to save me from divine punishment. At the same time, I can personally claim for myself that the Son of God loved me and gave Himself for me.

Figuratively speaking, the Saviour stretches out His hand to me. If I grasp it because I believe that He can save me, He pulls me out of the mire of sin and brings me into a blessed relationship with God.

Today’s reading: Genesis 1:20-31 · Proverbs 31:10-20
