“This thing is from Me”

Thus says the Lord: You shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.
1 Kings 12:24

“This thing is from Me”
An army of 180,000 men was ready. King Rehoboam wanted to use it to secure his rule over all Israel after the ten tribes had rebelled against Him. Then the Lord sent His prophet with the message to Rehoboam, “This thing is from Me.” The king and the people listened. A terrible civil war was prevented.

Everyone has bitter experiences in their lives that cause them great distress: hostility, strife, loss, illness and death. Such events trigger disappointment, anger, sadness and fear in us. We are in danger of reacting quickly and wrongly. That is why the Lord calls out to us: “It is not blind fate that has struck you. I have brought it about. But remember: what concerns you also concerns Me! Yes, it is from Me that this thing has happened.”

o Have you been disappointed by friends? The Lord allowed it to happen so that you would cling to Him.
o Has injustice been done to you? Bring your case before the Lord first. He will help you.
o Are you lying sick and helpless in bed? Your Lord is with you and will carry you through the trial.
o Have you lost your job? Trust in your Lord – He will take care of you.

Whatever is plaguing and piercing you inside, the pain fades as you learn to accept that “this thing is from Me.”

Today’s reading: Genesis 3:14-24 · 1 Peter 1:17-25
