Divine help on the journey of faith

He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
Psalm 121:3

Divine help on the journey of faith
When God gives us the assurance that our foot will not be moved, He is thinking about the journey of faith. Our path to our heavenly goal is like a hike in the mountains:

There are difficult and dangerous stretches. We don’t know where to put our foot without slipping. Something like this also happens on our journey of faith. We find ourselves in situations where we are overwhelmed by the difficulties and don’t know what to do. What is to be done then? James advises us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5). Our God gives us the necessary wisdom so that we can pass through a dangerous “place” without wavering or even falling.
On a hike, there are stretches now and then that seem endless. Our feet become tired and our steps become unsteady. We also experience this on the way to heaven. For some stretches, our energy and endurance are not enough. In Isaiah 40:31 we read what helps us: “They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Our God wants to continually give us new strength, so that we do not waver or give up but courageously go on.

Today’s reading: Genesis 18:1-15 · Jude vv. 5-16

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
