Washed clean

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood …
Revelation 1:5

Washed clean
On an advertising poster for a soap product, a little boy holds a bar of soap in his hand and looks around for his own shadow. Underneath it says in big letters, “This is the one thing I can’t wash away!” – a good idea from the advertising company!

As I think about this slogan, I am reminded that we human beings all carry around another “shadow” like a dark trail: sin. And just as the bright sunlight casts a distinct shadow, this shadow of sin also becomes visible only when we step into the “light” of God’s Word.

Unfortunately, for many today the term “sin” has become very blurred and is often linguistically trivialised. What is the reason for this? It is mainly because the Bible’s definition is no longer known. According to the Bible, sin is anything that man does, says or thinks without taking God’s will into account. The effects of sin in people’s hearts and lives are immense – and, like a shadow, they cannot be removed by outward cleansing. This is because evil comes from our hearts, and that is where purification from sin must begin. How can this happen?

The Bible gives the answer: “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). This is the only way to be washed clean of sin.

What a gift that God forgives everyone who makes use of this “cleansing agent”! Everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus and His sacrificial work can know that his sins are washed away. And he will one day, in heaven, thank his Saviour, Jesus Christ, and worship Him for His love.

Today’s reading: Genesis 22:1-12 · Psalms 5:1-6

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
