Changing course to God

What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed?
Romans 6:21

Changing course to God
“Peter” had “enjoyed his life” as a man in his late twenties and had left nothing out. One day he noticed an unusual change in one of his friends who had lived no differently than he had: his friend suddenly stopped joining in their questionable pleasures and ventures. Nevertheless, he seemed decidedly content and happy. Finally, he told Peter that he had come to believe in Jesus Christ.

Peter began to reflect on his life. He realised that deep down he was actually not happy at all. How often he had felt the bitter aftertaste of his burdened conscience and tried to silence it. The change and joy his friend now radiated touched him. He thought how much he would love to experience the same. After much deliberation and consideration, he too confessed his sins to God and was given to understand in faith that Jesus Christ had suffered and died on the cross for those sins.

What followed then was like a dramatic change of course. The whole direction of his life changed. What had interested Peter before now lost its attraction and new things became important. Over time, he came to know Jesus better and better and what it means to have Him as Saviour and Lord.

Today, Peter and his friend regularly read the Bible and go to church services. God’s Word gives them direction for a meaningful life, strengthening them every day – a reason for them to praise God and thank Him.

Today’s reading: Genesis 24:15-31 · Psalms 7:9-17
