The forgotten loaves

Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
Matthew 16:5

The forgotten loaves
We can easily imagine the disciples and their challenges. They were travelling with the Lord Jesus, a different place and a different programme every day, experiencing many unforeseen things. It was certainly not always easy for them to assess the daily schedule correctly and to make the necessary preparations. This could also have been the case on the day mentioned in today’s Bible passage.

After meeting with the Pharisees and Sadducees, they got into the boat and sailed with the Lord Jesus to the other shore. Perhaps their minds were still on the Lord’s conversation with the Pharisees about the signs in the weather. Maybe they were still wondering what He meant by the “sign of Jonah”. In any case, they forgot to take bread with them! They just forgot, didn’t think about it – it wasn’t intentional on their part. How often this happens to us!

The Lord’s reaction is so beautiful. He doesn’t reproach them for forgetting something. He knows that they (and we) cannot keep everything in our minds. He only reproaches them (and us) for not having thought of His omnipotence which can meet everything that is lacking. How often the Lord has also shown us His greatness and omnipotence! He always has a way out when we have forgotten something – even today.

How great You are, Lord!

Today’s reading: Genesis 25:19-34 · Psalms 10:1-11

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
