Dealing with possessions

Give, and it will be given to you.
Luke 6:38

Dealing with possessions
o What’s mine is mine: that is selfishness! People insist on what belongs to them. Jealously they try to protect their own possessions from the reach of others. The Lord Jesus warns us of the consequences: “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses” (Luke 12:15).
o What’s yours is yours: This is righteousness! Paul attached great importance to this in his ministry. He never demanded support. To the Christians in Thessalonica he could say on this point, “You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:10).
o What’s yours is mine: that is unrighteousness! A person considers the property of his fellow human beings as something to which he has a claim and lives off the resources of others. The apostle admonishes us, “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need” (Ephesians 4:28).
o What’s mine is yours: That is generosity! God Himself provides the best example of this. He did not spare His own Son but gave Him to die for us. Now we are to be His imitators and share what we have with others. Let us not forget the word of the Lord Jesus, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

Today’s reading: Genesis 26:18-35 · Psalms 11:1-7

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
