A man once rejected a booklet containing...

Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
Luke 8:35

A man once rejected a booklet containing the Gospel of Luke, saying, “I have looked into this book before. Every time I read it, my heart becomes uneasy and I get scared.”

How come? After all, Luke repeatedly tells us in his Gospel how lovingly and compassionately Jesus Christ met and helped people – and they became free from bondage and sin through it. However, the Bible also exposes and confronts people with the truth of God – this is especially uncomfortable for those who don’t want to let the truth get to them.

The following story shows how to approach the Word of God differently. A man began reading the Bible with his wife. After a few days, he stopped reading aloud and said, “If this book is right, we are on a completely wrong track!” Nevertheless, they continued reading. After some time he said to his wife, “If this book is true, we are lost!”

God’s Word had touched their innermost being. It had awakened their consciences and pointed them to the Saviour. And now this couple wanted to get to the bottom of things and know the truth. As they read on, they not only realised more and more clearly what was separating them from God and causing them to be lost, they also realised that they were guilty in God’s eyes and needed forgiveness for their sins. They discovered that Jesus Christ and His substitutionary suffering and death on the cross had also happened for them personally. To Him they confessed their sins, seeking forgiveness. And then one day the man said to his wife: “If this book is from God – and it must be from God – then we are saved!”

Today’s reading: Genesis 29:15-35 · Psalms 16:1-11

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
