People have always reacted differently to...

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, do you also want to go away? But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
John 6:66–68

People have always reacted differently to Jesus Christ.

At the time of this Bible passage, Jesus had fed more than 5,000 people. That pleased them – they could use such a man: one who satisfied their needs, who gave them what they needed, and perhaps even freed them from the Romans. So they went after Him (v. 24).

Jesus then explains to them that He is “the bread of God” and that He came down from heaven. He became man to give life to the world. Some react to this with incomprehension and think, “We know who His father and mother are, so how can He say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” (v. 33, 41, 42).

Then the Lord Jesus explains that He will give His life so that people can live forever; and that He will therefore die and His blood will flow out. Now others argue about what He said (v. 51–52).

Finally, some of His followers are annoyed at His statement that He will return to heaven and ascend “where He was before”. They are annoyed and resent Him, no longer going along with Him (v. 62, 66). But there are still the twelve, the closest circle of His disciples. Will they also go away? “No!” says Peter resolutely. “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”. This is a clear decision!

Seek Him because you need Him ... grumble about Him because you think you know better ... argue about Him when you don’t understand Him ... be irritated by Him and go away ... or stick with Him, no matter what. To which group do you belong?

Today’s reading: Genesis 35:1-29 · Psalms 21:1-13

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
