We’ve probably all had experiences with...

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
Psalm 32:8

We’ve probably all had experiences with good or not so good consultants. In this case, good and not so good are determined by at least two factors: on the one hand the consultant needs to have thoroughly analysed our situation and brought in his extensive knowledge and wealth of experience; on the other hand, there mustn’t be the feeling that the consultant himself is deriving the greatest profit from the provision of advice.

There is one advisor we can rely on in every situation: the omniscient and omnipotent God. He not only knows every detail of our lives, but He also has only the best in mind for us. The Bible gives us a number of impressive examples of how God helped a wide variety of people through His wonderful counsel.

If we want to benefit from God’s good counsel, we must first admit that we are at our wits’ end. Before God, we need to openly and honestly express in prayer that we can’t manage without Him. And then we must establish a relationship with Him, because God cannot be treated like a dispensing machine. This means confessing to Him that we are lost without His grace. At this point, God’s advice for life begins: He shows us His offer of salvation in Jesus Christ, who died for us and rose again. Whoever follows this “advice” and believes in the Son of God brings God onto their side.

Through His Word, the Bible, God then goes on to show us what a joyful life looks like. It is not without its challenges and hardships, but it is never without advice and a way out. God shows us His view of the things of life and shows us the way we should go. That gives us peace and makes life worth living.

Today’s reading: Genesis 47:13-26 · Psalms 34:1-11

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
