“And remember, my boy, when you’re in need...

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.
Psalm 50:15

“And remember, my boy, when you’re in need, pray!” With these words, a mother bid farewell to her only son as he went to sea. She was full of worry for him, because so far he had always refused her plea to place his life under God’s guidance. She hoped that he would at least think of God in times of need!

“There will probably be time for praying later,” the adventurous young man thought to himself. In any case, he wanted to master life on his own first. Little did he know that he would soon have to make use of this “distress signal”.

While alone on deck, doing some light work which would not usually throw an experienced sailor off balance, disaster happened: due to an unexpected movement of the ship, he was thrown overboard. As he fell he prayed, “God, if You exist, show it to me now!” No one had noticed the incident, but God heard the distress call. Just then a sailor came to check on the young man. Not finding him on deck, he looked overboard and spotted him at the exact moment that his head emerged from the water. With difficulty they managed to save him right at the last minute. When the young man was safely back on board, he told the story of his prayer. But that incident didn’t bring about a turning point in his life – yet.

After his return from this trip, he accompanied his mother to a Bible study. There he realised that his sins separated him from God and that he needed to be saved. Finally he confessed his guilt to God and received forgiveness and peace. Now he was also saved for eternity.

Today’s reading: Genesis 50:15-26 · Psalms 37:1-11

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

APPLY THE KEY

Every blessing worth its salt requires a key without which the seeker cannot access it. While some people have never experienced open doors, others once did, but the doors hitherto opened to them have been shut. In
