The car flies off the curve and...

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: We implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:20–21

The car flies off the curve and finds itself in a garden below the road. The impact heavily damages the car body. It’s a write-off! Two young people get out. Miraculously, nothing has happened to them except for a few minor injuries. They are standing there in a daze, realising that they have stared death in the face and are very lucky to be alive.

But what kind of luck was that? Who protected them and saved them from a fatal outcome? Where would they be now if they hadn’t experienced this miracle? At such moments, questions pile up and emotions ride a roller coaster. But often the horror is quickly forgotten, and nonchalance regains the upper hand. This is in keeping with our human nature, with its incredible ability to repress bad memories and carry on with life without a care in the world.

But isn’t it God who has spoken? Even if we often don’t pay attention, He repeatedly speaks to each of us that we might use our lifetime on earth to prepare for eternity. God doesn’t want us to be lost forever but, through repentance toward Him and faith in Jesus Christ, to receive eternal life (Job 33:14; 2 Peter 3:9).

Things do not always turn out as well as they did for these two young people. The Bible therefore admonishes us, “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 4:7). We should therefore take the opportunity now to get right with Him.

Today’s reading: Daniel 3:1-18 · Psalms 39:1-6

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
