Gray Hawk (1)

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

Gray Hawk (1)
Gray Hawk was an American Indian. But he was also a liar, a cheat and a murderer. The white men had put a bounty on his head but he always managed to escape them. When he heard that missionaries were setting out to visit a friendly Indian tribe, he decided to join their trek incognito.

He hated the Christians, he hated their songs and their church services, but most of all he hated the little black book they always read from. But now he was travelling with them, for weeks on end. On Sundays, when the party rested, he grabbed his rifle and went hunting all day. He didn’t want to hear any sermons or songs.

July arrived, and it became oppressively hot. Although it was Sunday, Gray Hawk, for the first time ever, didn’t feel like going hunting. He stretched out in the shade of a covered wagon and fell asleep. When he awoke, there was singing all around him. This was because the missionaries had just gathered around his covered wagon for their church service. He was too tired to move and so he remained lying there, seemingly unaffected and uninterested.

The missionary who was preaching presented the love of God that had given people everything they needed. He explained that people hated God and rejected Him. But God loved His creatures and sent to earth His Son, Jesus Christ, who died so that people could be saved and go to heaven. Gray Hawk listened even though he didn’t want to, even though he rejected God and hated the Bible.

Perhaps someone is ‘listening’ right now, who actually doesn’t want to listen but needs to hear that God loves him and wants to reach his heart.

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today’s reading: Job 10:1-22 · Acts 8:14-25

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
