Waiting patiently

My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.
James 5:10

Waiting patiently
We find ourselves in an unjust world that doesn’t want anything to do with God. Therefore, it isn’t easy for us to live a life according to the instructions of the Bible and to bear witness to Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, we don’t want to give up but to persevere until the coming of the Lord. As motivation to persevere, James reminds us of the prophets who patiently waited for God’s intervention in similar situations.

One such example is the prophet Jeremiah. God tasked him with presenting the people of Jerusalem with their wrongdoing and announcing divine judgment. He was to stay away from their evil deeds and clearly take God’s side. Because he fulfilled this mission faithfully, he was hated, persecuted and imprisoned. How much suffering this faithful man of God endured!

In Lamentations 3:21–23, Jeremiah tells us what encouraged him to persevere in the difficulties: “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” In verse 26 he draws an important conclusion from this: “It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” In his patient waiting, the prophet Jeremiah is an inspiring example for us.

Today’s reading: Job 15:1-35 · Acts 10:1-16

FASTING IS NECESSARY

Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
