The path to eternal life

The way of life winds upward for the wise, that he may turn away from hell below.
Proverbs 15:24

The path to eternal life
Anyone who wants to take this path will come across various “road signs” along the way. They mark this path and on them are written biblical facts. Whoever believes and follows them will make progress and one day reach their heavenly destination.

Sign 1: Man is guilty. “There is none righteous, no, not one ... . For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10, 22–23).

Sign 2: God loves all people. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Sign 3: Christ’s redemptive work is fully sufficient. “The blood of Jesus ... cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). “By one offering He has perfected forever those who are … sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14).

Sign 4: Only faith in Jesus Christ saves. “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36).

Sign 5: Salvation is absolutely secure. “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).

Sign 6: The goal is heaven. “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).

Today’s reading: Job 21:1-34 · Acts 12:12-25

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
