Thoughts on the Gospel of John (203)

Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb. So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first. And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.
John 20:3–7

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (203)
Mary Magdalene has told Peter and “the other disciple” that the Lord is no longer in the tomb. Peter – is he really the right person to talk to? Didn’t he deny Jesus? Yes, but Peter is no Judas! Peter bitterly regretted his action and has remained in the circle of the disciples. Together with John, he now sets out to see for himself. Obviously, they also don’t remember Jesus’ words that He would rise again after three days.

The news of the empty tomb sets two men in motion: they now race each other. John is faster than Peter; after all, he is the younger of the two. But why is this mentioned here at all? Is it to make clear that John especially appreciated and returned Jesus’ love? Peter, on the other hand, gives an impression of reluctance. Since his denial he has not yet been able to speak with Jesus. However, Peter then shows courage and “overtakes” John by entering the tomb.

Everything looks neat and tidy. Moreover, it is noticeable that the handkerchief is wrapped up by itself. What a clear indication that Jesus’ body has not been secretly and hastily taken away by enemies or friends! The order in the tomb shows this great fact: He has risen!

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
