The Parable of the Good Samaritan (5)

So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Luke 10:34

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (5)
The parable of the Good Samaritan paints a picture of the lost condition of man on the one hand, and of the loving care of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, on the other. In the parable, a Samaritan takes pity on a dying man who has been robbed and seriously injured by robbers. What does the Samaritan do to help this man?

1. He goes to him. – The Lord Jesus did not “handle” our moral misery from heaven. He, the Son of God, came to us by becoming a man to die for us.
2. He bandages His wounds and pours oil and wine on them. – Those who accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord experience healing from the hurts that sin causes in our lives. His efforts are like a balm that enables us to leave the old life behind.
3. He puts him on his own animal, leads him to an inn and takes care of him. – This inn is symbolic of the “house of God” in our time. It is not a material building, but it is the assembly or church of God, which consists of all true believers. In this “house” believers experience the loving care of the “master of the house”. They find a home in the congregation.
Isn’t it impressive how lovingly the Samaritan takes care of every detail? In the same way, the Lord Jesus, the Good Shepherd, takes care of everyone who belongs to Him.

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today’s reading: Isaiah 1:1-17 · Acts 20:13-27

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
