Today it’s my turn

He (Mordecai) also gave him (Hathach) a copy of the written decree for their destruction, which was given at Shushan, that he might show it to Esther and explain it to her, and that he might command her to go in to the king to make supplication to him and plead before him for her people.
Esther 4:8

Today it’s my turn
Mordecai and all the people of the Jews, who are in the empire of the Medes and Persians, are threatened with annihilation by Haman. There is only one way out: Esther! She is herself a Jew but lives as a queen at the court of King Ahasuerus. But even this queen is only allowed to appear before the king on his orders. If she does so without his permission, she puts her life in danger. She can be killed for this unless the king graciously extends his sceptre to her. Yet now she is supposed to go to Ahasuerus and plead for her people.

We can well understand that Esther is afraid to carry out Mordecai’s task. Her life is at stake! All the signs are unfavourable. She says, “It cannot be that I have to fulfil this mission right now.” But Mordecai urges Esther not to think of herself. She is the only one in a position to stand up for the Jewish people before the king.

God has made you and me unique. Moreover, no one else is in the same place, in the same position, with the same abilities as you or me at any given time. That is why every encounter we have with other people today is unique. Every contact is also an opportunity to demonstrate or say something about the Lord Jesus. He wants to help us recognise and carry out the tasks He has prepared especially for us.

Today’s reading: Isaiah 13:1-22 · Acts 24:22-27

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
