Redeemer and Lord

As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, Follow Me. So he arose and followed Him.
Matthew 9:9

Redeemer and Lord
As Jesus Christ was travelling through Israel, He passed by the customs house one day, where Matthew was collecting taxes for the Romans. Tax collectors were not at all popular with their fellow men at that time because they helped the oppressors of the people. Most wanted to have as little to do with them as possible.

But the Son of God saw in Matthew a person for whom He had come to earth. Although He knew everything about him, He didn’t despise him. It was this man that the Lord Jesus wanted to save and make His disciple. That is why He urged him, “Follow Me”.

Matthew was deeply impressed by the grace that the Saviour showed him. Therefore, he followed the call immediately. From that moment on, he no longer wanted to direct his own life but to obey the Lord Jesus.

After His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ returned to heaven. Nevertheless, we can still experience today how He enters our lives in a very personal way. It happens through the message of the gospel:

o As Saviour, He offers us forgiveness of sins and eternal life. When we confess our sins and believe that Jesus Christ paid for them with His life, He brings us into a proper relationship with God.
o As Lord, He calls us to follow Him. He wants to be in charge in our lives and take us into His school. From Him we learn to how to honour God through our behaviour.

Today’s reading: Isaiah 37:1-20 · Hebrews 3:7-19

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
