Death at the lantern

I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.
Revelation 22:16

Death at the lantern
Why do you often see fluttering moths all night long at streetlights, especially on the outskirts of cities and in parks? It has been found that the moths’ attraction to the lanterns increases as the UV content of the light increases. However, not all species of moths are attracted to the light; in fact, some prefer to flee into the darkness. Some researchers interpret the strange behaviour of the seemingly death-seeking moths in the following way. At night, the moths orient themselves to the moon or the fixed stars. For example, if the moth wants to fly straight ahead, it always keeps the stars at the same angle to it. But if the moth instead orients itself to an artificial light source, it will circle it in ever smaller arcs – thinking it is flying straight ahead – until it eventually hits the lantern. The orientation to the wrong object costs it its life.

We humans also depend on reliable orientation in life. If we do not focus on the right fixed point for this, but orient ourselves by the wrong place, the consequences can be just as disastrous.

The “star” to which we should orient our lives is Jesus Christ. In the last book of the Bible He calls Himself the “Bright and Morning Star”.

Those who have come to know Christ and follow Him have the best orientation for all questions of life; and they will surely reach their destination – eternal glory.

Today’s reading: Isaiah 40:18-31 · Hebrews 6:1-9

ACCEPTED TIME 2

God is never too early and He is never too late. His timetable is set on purpose; the purpose is not only for your sake but also for His. In all things, His name shall be glorified. No doubt, He would have been glorified healing Lazarus of his sickness, but this can't compare to raising him from the dead after four...More

IMPEDIMENTS TO PRAYER

Read:
. He is looking for those who are ready and committed to walking in His footsteps. God is holy, and He has called us to holy living. We are to do as He commands because we are the light of the world. God in Heaven is glorified when our light shines in the midst of the darkness of this world. If you...More

Standing in the limelight

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern for all who are going to believe on him for everlasting life.
1 Timothy 1:15.16.
