Jumbled thoughts

In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul.
Psalm 94:19

Jumbled thoughts
Do we know this feeling? We struggle to concentrate because there’s simply too much going on in our heads. Our inner restlessness may prevent us from sleeping peacefully at night. All kinds of worries or problems can trouble us mentally – whether personal, family-related or professional. The circumstances of people who are close to us can also be particularly disturbing. Not less alarming is the state of our world, which is becoming increasingly insecure and unpredictable.

In such situations, our minds easily reach their limits as we try to find solutions. But we need not despair. The God of the Bible is able to comfort us – like He did for David in today’s verse – and make us calm again inside.

The Lord Jesus Himself once said, “Come unto Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). We can simply tell Him everything that is troubling us: our guilt, our failures, our fears, our worries, our problems – and our innermost needs. And if we’re not able to formulate a coherent prayer at that moment, we can simply be in silence before Him. He knows our thoughts anyway and He can also sort them out.

He listens attentively to us and is ready to forgive, to help, to comfort, to give us new courage and confidence, and to make us inwardly calm and confident. Because Jesus, the Son of God, is above all and became a man, He can understand us and is full of compassion for us in our situation.

Today’s reading: Isaiah 46:1-13 · Hebrews 10:1-10
