Room 5020
A 55-year-old Christian man was terminally ill. He was in hospital room 5020 where he was being well cared for. Although his physical strength was steadily declining, he greeted all his visitors with a smile and a word of encouragement. The nursing staff was also impressed by his faith as he quietly trusted in God. Thus, room 5020 became a place of hope for his family, friends and caregivers.

A friend said, “Whenever I went to visit him, he was calm and confident. He lived his faith in the Lord Jesus even in the face of illness and death.”

At his funeral, the speaker said, “Room 5020 reminds me of Genesis 50:20, where Joseph explains to his brothers that God had brought something good out of their evil actions. In their hatred, they had sold Joseph as a slave to Egypt. There, however, God was able to use him to keep a great nation alive. In the same way, God intended to bring something good out of our loved one’s illness and home-call. Because he trusted God in this trial, he was able to testify to his faith and encourage others.”

The Lord can also help us to trust in God steadfastly and patiently in difficult times. When our faith is strengthened through a trial and God’s goodness is witnessed, the Lord has brought something good out of our distress.
