What we can bring to God (1)

When anyone offers a grain offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. And he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it.
Leviticus 2:1

What we can bring to God (1)
God gave the Israelites precise instructions on how to worship Him with a sacrificial offering. Out of gratitude for their deliverance from Egypt and for all the provisions of His grace, they were to offer something to Him. This included the grain offering which was made of fine flour mixed with oil and frankincense, and was burned on the altar of burnt offering.

This sacrifice has a spiritual meaning for us. Jesus Christ speaks of Himself as the grain of wheat (John 12:24). In order for grains of wheat to become fine flour, they must be ground. This happened symbolically in the life of the Lord Jesus when He was tempted by Satan and antagonised by men. These burdens revealed how perfect He was as a man.

The oil points to the Holy Spirit. Jesus was conceived by the Spirit. Then at the Jordan the Spirit of God descended upon Him like a dove, so that He could perform His ministry in the power of the Spirit. The frankincense speaks of His total surrender to God, which was evident in His life and ministry.

Just as the Israelite had to prepare the grain offering, it is also necessary for us to study Jesus Christ through the Bible, and how He behaved as a man. Then we can make a spiritual offering to God by speaking to Him with admiration and worship about the perfect life of the Lord Jesus.

Today’s reading: Isaiah 63:15-64:12 · Mark 3:1-12

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
