A sick and destitute musician, who became...

If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.
John 4:10

A sick and destitute musician, who became famous only towards the end of his life, received a musical score in a leather case as a tribute from his admirers. Since he had been expecting financial help, he angrily threw the gift into a cupboard. He continued to experience a life of privation and died not long after.

His heirs were surprised to find banknotes in the score in the leather case between each of the pages! Unfortunately, the unhappy composer had not even bothered to open the satchel and was therefore unaware of the small treasure.

How many people resemble him! They don’t look closely enough and therefore do not recognise the blessings of God. They don’t understand how to properly appreciate the health, intelligence, freedom, and everything else that God bestows upon all His creatures.

Above all, they sadly and guiltily pass by His “indescribable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15). The supreme happiness He offers us is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. The Lord presents Himself to the woman at Jacob’s well as the “gift of God”.

When we have Him, we are the richest and happiest of people.

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

Today’s reading: Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 · Mark 6:7-13

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
