Establishment and Encouragement

We sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith.
1 Thessalonians 3:2

Establishment and Encouragement
The Christians in Thessalonica were living in a difficult environment. Their unbelieving fellow men despised and persecuted them because they had turned to the living God and believed in the Lord Jesus. The Apostle Paul was worried about them because of this. Would they be able to withstand the pressure? Would they continue to trust in God? To support them in their faith, he sent Timothy to them. He was to establish and encourage them.

Our own faith can also be shaken by a sad event in life or wearied by the increasing pressure of this godless world. Therefore, we have just as much need to be established and encouraged by the Word of God.

o Establishment: Through good biblical instruction we gain spiritual stability. We then seek to stand firm with the Lord in spite of problems, as Philippians 4:1 says, “Stand fast in the Lord, beloved”. We also learn from the Word of God that difficulties are part of a Christian’s life. Thus, biblical truth strengthens our trust in God.
o Encouragement: Through remembering God’s promises, our hearts are encouraged. It strengthens us to know that the Lord is with us in our difficulties. The thought of His coming also gives us new courage: He will rapture us out of the world and take us to heaven. Then all troubles will be over. That is why we should continue to trust Him – until He comes.

Today’s reading: Ecclesiastes 10:1-20 · Mark 6:45-56

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
