“Lord, save me!”

And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me! And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
Matthew 14:29–31

“Lord, save me!”
One Christmas Day was almost the last day of my life. I was ten years old at the time. The lake near our village was covered with a layer of ice. It seemed thick enough; surely you could already go skating on it! I was eager to try out the new skates I had been given as a present and ventured onto the ice near a small pier.

The ice was much thinner than I had thought. After a short time, I heard a creaking sound and before I realised what was happening, I found myself in the water. The icy cold water took my breath away so that I couldn’t scream for help. All that could be seen of me was my right arm sticking out of the freezing water. Fortunately, a man immediately ran from the shore and reached out his hand to pull me out of the water. I was saved!

This incident illustrates the condition of man without God. Separated from Him, we are walking on thin ice. Our life lacks a solid foundation because we have no share in eternal life. Without Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life, we have no hope (John 14:6). But Jesus has seen our distress. Full of love, He stretches out His hand to us. We just have to take it, being ready and willing to be saved.

The rescue from the ice-cold water also helped me at that time to understand that I could not free myself from sin. Therefore, in faith, I took the hand that Jesus extended to me.

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
