New beginning

This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.
Exodus 12:2

New beginning
This New Year has begun. And our Bible verse also speaks of a new year, indeed of an entirely new era that God ordained. What radical event could have brought this about?

In this verse, God is making a fresh start with the Israelites. In Egypt, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have had to endure forced labour for many years. But now God wants to free them and lead them to the promised land of Canaan.

From oppression to freedom; from fear to security: a fresh start with God – truly the beginning of an entirely new era.

However, the fresh start with God doesn’t happen easily. In verse 3, we read: “On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb”. This lamb is central. In its significance, it points to Jesus Christ, whose sacrificial death on the cross would initiate an even more far-reaching new beginning. And today, not just one nation but everyone is invited to participate in it.

Thus, the New Year can become a year of inner freedom and deep security for each of our readers, a year under the blessed guidance of God. While God has not promised us that the coming months will pass without obstacles and problems, He has promised to be with us, whatever may come our way. And we can be absolutely confident in Him.

God’s promise applies to all who have made a fresh start with Him and belong to His new creation through faith in Christ. For them, the old has passed away, and something completely new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Today’s reading: Exodus 1:1-22 · Luke 1:1-12

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
