God’s act of love for His enemies

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
Romans 5:10

God’s act of love for His enemies
During the American War of Independence, the preacher Peter Miller lived in Pennsylvania. He was respected by many, but one neighbour hated him and caused him a lot of harm.

One day, this neighbour was arrested and sentenced to death for treason. Miller immediately went to General Washington, the future President of the USA, and passionately pleaded for the condemned man’s life. However, Washington replied, “I’m sorry, but I cannot pardon your friend.”

“My friend?” exclaimed Miller. “This man is my greatest enemy!” – “What?” Washington asked in surprise. “You’ve travelled 60 miles to save the life of an enemy? Then the matter is different: he shall be pardoned.”

Miller received the pardon and quickly set out to prevent the execution. He arrived just in time. The condemned man recognised him immediately and bitterly exclaimed, “Ha, Miller, have you come to see me hang with glee?”

How astonished he was when Miller handed him the document that saved his life!

The love of God is so great that He offers His grace to mankind. Although they are His enemies, He did everything for their redemption: He gave His own Son unto death so that everyone who believes in Him could be saved.

Today’s reading: Exodus 8:1-20 · Luke 3:1-14

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
