Turning to God

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod.
Genesis 4:16

Turning to God
After Cain had killed his brother Abel out of hatred, God confronted him: “What have you done?” (Genesis 4:10). God condemned the wicked act and explained the punishment for it. However, Cain rebelled against God and turned his back on Him. He went away to lead a godless life from then on.

Since then, many people have gone down this path. They have done evil and wrong, but they are not willing to acknowledge their wrongdoing. Instead of recognising God’s judgment on their sinful lives, they turn away from Him. They try to silence their conscience and make their lives without God as comfortable as possible.

But no one can run away from the living God. He is everywhere and knows everything that people do, say and think. Yet He offers them His grace. Even though He knows all their guilt, He wants them to enter into a joyful relationship with Him. That’s why the Bible says, “Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness” (Joel 2:13).

This return was made possible by the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His sacrificial death on the cross made it possible for God to offer us forgiveness of our sins. He was the mediator between God and mankind who gave Himself as “a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:5?6). Now it is up to us to heed the call to repentance and accept the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour.

Today’s reading: Exodus 12:43-13:10 · Luke 6:1-11

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
