Biblical terms

Do you understand what you are reading?

How can I, unless someone guides me?

Acts 8:30-31

Biblical terms
Today, let’s attempt to explain some terms that appear frequently in this calendar:

o Sin: This includes every impure thought, every evil word and every wrong deed. When we sin, we do what pleases us and disregard God’s claims on us.
o Recognition of sin: The Word of God activates our conscience and makes us aware of the wrong we have done. We recognise that we are guilty before God.
o Repentance: This refers to a change of mind. Instead of justifying ourselves, we acknowledge God’s judgment on our lives and have a strong desire to turn to Him.
o Confession: We confess to God the sins we have committed. We admit to Him that we have disregarded His will and violated His commandments.
o Forgiveness: This is God’s gracious response to honest confession. He no longer holds our wrongdoing against us but forgives us for all of our sins.
o Faith: We accept with faith what God tells us in the Bible. We believe that Christ died as a sacrifice for our sins and for our salvation, and that He rose again.
o Conversion: This is a complete change of direction. We turn away from our old life without God to now listen to Him and live with Him.
o New birth: When we accept the Lord Jesus as our Saviour, the Holy Spirit brings about a new life in us through the Word of God.

Today’s reading: Exodus 17:8-16 · Luke 7:36-50

But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
