The name Jesus
Jesus means “The LORD is Salvation”. With this name, the Son of God came into the world as a man. It is the name of our Saviour. Every person who believes in Him and is saved rejoices when they hear this name. Does it not awaken our love for Him, the one who has saved us?

This name also stood above His cross, where unbelieving people had taken Him in their hatred. The inscription of His accusation read: “This is Jesus the King of the Jews” (Matthew 27:37). In adoration, we bow our hearts before Him, who took our place in God’s judgment of sin on the cross and accomplished the work of our salvation.

With this name, after His death and resurrection He returned to heaven, from where we now await Him. “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven”, said the angels to the apostles who witnessed His ascension (Acts 1:11).

As we wait for Him, we look up to heaven in faith. There, we see “Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour” (Hebrews 2:9). What joy for us that He – who was rejected here – is now seated in the heavenly place of honour at the right hand of God!
