The strange conductor

You are the God who does wonders.
Psalm 77:14

The strange conductor
The preacher Spurgeon had been preaching in the vicinity of London. As he boarded the train home, he realised that his ticket was missing. A man sitting in the same compartment observed Spurgeon rummaging through his pockets and kindly said to him, “I hope you haven’t lost anything.”

“Well, I can’t find my ticket anymore, and unfortunately I don’t have any money with me. But I have worked for my Master, so everything will be fine. He has helped me many times before, in big and small things.”

His fellow passenger expressed his sympathy. Shortly afterward, the conductor came to check the tickets. He greeted Spurgeon’s companion very politely, and the latter simply said, “Everything’s fine.”

The conductor greeted politely again and moved on.

“Strange!” Spurgeon said, amazed. “The conductor didn’t ask for my ticket.”

“Yes,” said the other, “Mr. Spurgeon, this is really evidence that God is watching over you. You see, I am the general manager of this railway line. And God directed things so that you happened to get into my compartment. It was my pleasure to help you.”

Remember: Our disappointments are God’s appointments. This servant of God experienced it, and anyone who trusts in God today can have similar experiences with his God.

Today’s reading: Exodus 26:15-30 · Luke 10:17-29

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
