The support of the Lord

The LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down.
Psalm 145:14

The support of the Lord
On the way to our heavenly home, the Lord comes to our aid to prevent us from falling by the wayside.

o He upholds those who are falling. As believers, we encounter many dangers in everyday life. The devil tries to lead us into sin, and the world attempts to divert us from the Lord through its offers. Thus, our path is like an icy path where we could slip at any moment. But the Lord Jesus is there to support us, preventing us from stumbling. He stands by us and preserves us step by step. In the Word of God we find glorious promises: “He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber” (Psalm 121:3). “The LORD preserves all who love Him” (Psalm 145:20).

o He raises up those who are bowed down. As believers, we experience many things in life that burden us. The duties of everyday life can become a heavy load. Lack of strength and wisdom make us feel discouraged in difficult situations. The decline in the Christian testimony and the increasing godlessness wear us down. But the Lord does not abandon us. He is there to lift us up through the Word of God.

He promises: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15).

Today’s reading: Exodus 33:12-23 · Luke 14:12-24

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
