As He is!

Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was.
Mark 4:36

As He is!
At the end of a busy day, the disciples take the Lord Jesus as He is, in the boat, to sail to the other shore of the Sea of Galilee. In the same way, we have Him with us in our lifeboat when we are children of God through faith in Him. But do we also know Him as He is? This story shows us exactly that.

It wasn’t a calm crossing, for a severe storm arose. And Jesus? He was sleeping in the back of the boat on a pillow. He was so tired! And such peace filled His heart that He could sleep despite the storm. When the disciples thought they would drown, they woke Him up. He stood up and commanded the wind, “Peace, be still!” Then a great calm came.

The Lord Jesus, as a true man, had become tired and slept in confidence in God despite the storm. But then He showed that He is also truly God, who can command the elements so that they obey Him.

This person is also in our lifeboat. After His death and resurrection, He promised: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). Not that He becomes tired as a human today, but He knows from experience what life on earth is like. He understands us and has compassion on us when we are afraid, something which often causes us concern. Even when we are left alone, ridiculed or excluded, He understands us. And He has no less understanding when we are tired, but He empathises with us and has compassion on our weakness and feelings of emptiness. He is not indifferent to our difficulties (Hebrews 4:15).

At the same time, He is the almighty God, whom no situation embarrasses. He can and He will in due time calm the storms of life of those who sincerely follow Him.

Today’s reading: Exodus 34:1-10 · Luke 14:25-35

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
