There is a resurrection!

The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth.
John 5:28–29

There is a resurrection!
Death does not mark the end of human existence. While the body is laid in the grave and decays, the spirit and soul go to the realm of the dead. The question is only whether we die without the forgiveness of our sins, or whether we are in harmony with God because we have believed in the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ during our lives. Today’s Bible verse clearly testifies that the Son of God will one day resurrect all people. What seems impossible to us will be accomplished by His divine power: all the dead will hear His voice and come back to life. The spirit and soul of people will reconnect with their body, even if it has long decayed or been cremated after death.

The resurrection of the dead is thus a biblically grounded fact. The question is only: What happens to people after the resurrection? The Word of God distinguishes between the resurrection to life and the resurrection to judgment:

o Those who die “in the Lord” will rise to life and eternal glory (that is the so-called “first resurrection”). They will be caught up to heaven with an immortal body to be forever with Christ. There they will see their Redeemer and rejoice in Him forever (Revelation 14:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; 1 John 3:2).

o Those who die in unbelief and in their sins will rise to judgment and eternal punishment. They will have to appear before the divine Judge. Because their name is not written in the book of life, they will go to hell where they will suffer eternal torment. That is the so-called “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15).

Today’s reading: Exodus 34:27-35 · Luke 15:11-19

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast...More
