The heavenly inheritance

An inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, (is) reserved in heaven for you.
1 Peter 1:4

The heavenly inheritance
My wife inherited a complete set of silver cutlery from her grandparents. It reminds us of the love of Grandpa and Grandma and the wonderful vacations she spent with them. So, we keep this “treasure” as a memory of our grandparents.

Recently, we took out the silver cutlery to show it to our children. To our dismay, we found that it had lost its shine. Instead, there were ugly, dark stains all over the silver. Fortunately, they could be removed through proper cleaning.

As Christians, God promises us an inheritance in heaven. It includes our joy in the Father’s house and our participation in Christ’s heavenly kingdom. This inheritance is kept for us until we actually inherit it. During the waiting period, we can be sure that it loses nothing of its value and beauty:

o The inheritance is imperishable because it is not subject to death. Its substance never changes.
o The inheritance is undefiled. Sin cannot destroy it. It remains untouchable in its purity.
o The inheritance is unfading. The ravages of time do not affect it. It preserves its glory eternally.

When we explore our heavenly inheritance through the Bible, we gain a greater appreciation of it. This disconnects our hearts from the earth and increasingly connects them with Christ in heaven.

Today’s reading: Exodus 37:17-29 · Luke 17:11-19

Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
