God has spoken to me

Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.
Jeremiah 15:16

God has spoken to me
During the Cold War era, only a few Christians in the former Soviet Union owned a Bible. In a particular city, the believers of a congregation had long prayed to obtain a Bible. Not even their pastor owned one. And in answer to their prayer, one day a visitor from the West came to the city and presented the pastor with a Bible. How great was the joy among these believers and their thankfulness to God when their pastor showed them his Bible the next Sunday! Finally, they heard God’s Word when it was read to them from it. As they left the church service rejoicing, the next joyful surprise awaited them: the pastor distributed a page from this long-awaited Bible to each person. He wanted to share his treasure so that everyone could read it personally.

A few days later, the pastor met a believer. This person greeted him with a broad smile and said, “Thank you for the page from the Prophet Jeremiah that you gave me!”

“Of course. Did you find the text encouraging?” the pastor asked. He inquired because Jeremiah had not led an easy life. After all, the prophet had been arrested, beaten, thrown into a pit, and likely killed in exile.

“Yes, this page especially comforted me because it starts like this: ‘Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time while he was still shut up in the court of the prison’ (Jeremiah 33:1). When I read that, I thought, ‘If God spoke to His proven prophet in such dark times, He can also speak to me,’ and this thought comforted me greatly.”

Today’s reading: Exodus 38:1-8 · Luke 17:20-37

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
